THE BEST TV SHOWS 2018
The year 2018 is going to be a memorable one for TV shows. Besides premiering the long-awaited second seasons of hit series, 2018 is blessing us with tons of new shows, both adaptations of books/comics and original ideas.While nearly every series on our list as of this writing doesn't have a release date, we'll be updating this guide as premieres are announced. As always, dates are tentative — we all know the world of TV is super fickle.
So if you're looking for something else to binge-watch besides Riverdale, and you need plenty of distractions from the fact Stranger Things's third season may not air until 2019, check out this list.
1.BLACK LIGHTNING
When: January 16
Where: The CW
What: A retired superhero is forced to don his alter ego again after a gang begins terrorizing his community. The series is based on the DC comics, with Never Been Kissed's Cress Williams playing the title role.
2.THE ALIENIST (new series)
When: January 22
Where: TNT
What: If you're missing Netflix's Mindhunter series after binging the first season, then you'll be please to know another psychological crime series is about to be your newest obsession.
Based on Caleb Carr's bestseller, The Alienist follows the exploits of a doctor who studies criminal behavior and treats people with mental illness, a New York Times crime reporter, and a feisty female secretary trapped in an good ol' boys police department as they furtively work to find a vicious serial killer who brutally murders young boys.
3.EVERYTHING SUCKS! (new series)
When: February 16
Where: Netflix
What: If you're tired of coming-of-age stories taking place in the '80s, then Netflix's new show is just for you. Everything Sucks! takes place in the '90s (which is the best decade, but I'm biased). The show follows misfits in the A/V and drama clubs in an Oregon high school, dealing with love, heartache, and the pains of growing up.
4.NIGHT SQUAD
When: February 24
Where: Nickelodeon
What: Fans of Henry Danger are going to love this new series about wannabe knights who train at a magical school. Musical.ly star Daniella Perkins stars in this butt-kicking series. Check out Seventeen.com's exclusive first look trailer here.
5.LIFE SENTENCE
When: March 7
Where: The CW
What: If you've missed seeing Lucy Hale on your TV every week after Pretty Little Liars ended, then you'll be please to learn she has a new series. After finding out her terminal cancer has actually been cured, Stella Abbott must learn to live with the consequences of the actions she made when she thought she was dying.
6.JESSICA JONES
When: March 8
Where: Netflix
What: Marvel's kick-ass crime fighter (who's also a Defender) is finally getting a second season, three years after her inaugural season premiered. Jessica Jones may have defeated evil Kilgrave, but that doesn't mean she's been able to shake him out of her psyche.
Star Krysten Ritter told Entertainment Weekly, "Jessica is in a pretty dark headspace when we meet her at the top of season 2. What we’ve done again is kept the story very personal. If season 1 was in her head and in her mind, then this season will be more in her heart."
7.A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS
When: March 30
Where: Netflix
What: When we last saw the Baudelaire orphans, they managed to avoid Count Olaf's clutches yet again. Picking up immediately where the first season left off, Violet, Klaus, and Sunny must deal with an "Austere Academy," an "Ersatz Elevator," a "Vile Village," a "Hostile Hospital," and a "Carnivorous Carnival." Season 2 will cover books 5-9 of the Lemony Snicket series.
8.FAMOUS IN LOVE
When: April 4
Where: Freeform
What: Ending the first season with a shocking murder is just one of the many questions Famous in Love needs to answer this season. Based on Rebecca Serle's YA series, and adapted for the small screen by Pretty Little Liars's showrunner I. Marlene King, the sexy series takes audiences through the inner workings of making a major Hollywood movie. Spoiler: Everyone is super hot for each other.
9.CLOAK & DAGGER
When: June 7
Where: Freeform
What: Marvel's teenage superheroes are getting their own series. Starring Girl vs. Monster's Olivia Holt as Dagger and The Night Of's Aubrey Joseph as Cloak, the young heroes work to master their newly-acquired powers while simultaneously falling in love with each other.
10.DEAR WITH PEOPLE
When: TBA
Where: Netflix
What: Set at a predominately white Ivy League school that's brewing with racial tensions, this woke series follows a group of students of color who work together to better improve their way of life, working to battle against racism and discrimination.
