The 2020 Hyper Super Car

These are teasing images of the PF0 by Automobili Pininfarina. Revealed today, they give an idea as to the design objectives of this much-anticipated electric hypercar which will go into production in 2020. The looks reflect the extreme technology and sheer power beneath the sheet metal, with exterior design working towards the classic Bauhaus ideology of form following function.

This being a hypercar, we expect staggering performance and driver thrills with the marque working towards acceleration from standing to 62mph in less than two seconds. Pininfarina says it will also aim to break the 250mph top speed barrier and provide a potential zero emissions range of over 300 miles. Moreover, the company's chief executive Michael Perschke has confirmed plans to bring on-board ex-Formula One racing driver Nick Heidfeld who will help develop the vehicle dynamics program.

Automobili Pininfarina was launched in April in Italy with a tight brief to create beautiful sports and luxury cars with electrifying performance on road and circuit. The brand promise is to sustainably develop and produce fully-eco ultra-luxurious cars in low volumes at the pinnacle of design and desirability in each of their segments.

The US is likely to be its largest market due to local interest in electric-power and Pininfarina-designed cars - with the new business engaging with prospective retailer partners. “Clients of PF0 and the future portfolio of Automobili Pininfarina luxury cars will find ownership as enjoyable, effortless and exciting as it is driving them,” promises Perschke. “We fully intend to partner with the world’s best luxury car retailers to help deliver on that promise: a true team effort and one-to-one experience that online sales can never deliver.”

I will be speaking further with the Automobili Pininfarina design director Luca Borgogno  More on this project soon.
